It is not by chance...
A message from Pastor and First Lady West

It is not by chance that you are viewing this. God has a plan for your life (Jeremiah 29:11) and we are honored that you are here.

Many of you reading this are part of the wonderful legacy your elders have paved for you here at UBBC over the past 150 years! How amazing is that? We pray that you stay faithful in your walk with the Lord as He will never leave nor forsake you. To all of our members we pray that UBBC continues to be an integral part in feeding your Christian growth; And together we will continue to be that beacon of light to the Amelia community, spreading the Good News!

Some may be reading this and find themselves in a place of uncertainty in life.  We want you to know that God loves you more than we can ever express in words.  The magnitude of His love was displayed a little over 2,000 years ago when Christ Jesus shed His blood to take away the sins of the world (including your sins).  Jesus took away every weight of guilt, shame, and fear so that we can live in freedom and walk in purpose. That is the Good News of Jesus Christ!  Our prayer is that you come to a knowledge of the saving Grace of God through repentance of sin and belief in Jesus as your Lord and Savior.  Then walk out a powerful life of discipleship.  If you want to know more please reach out to us. We would love to pray for you.

At UBBC we are lifting Jesus up so that all people can be drawn unto Him.  We truly hope that you will come be a part of what God is doing at our branch of Zion.

May God Bless You and Keep You,

In His service,

Pastor & First Lady West

Historic Overview

Union Branch Baptist Church was organized around 1870 as an outreach ministry of the Mt. Zion Presbyterian church. At that time, Mt. Zion Church had a white minister who, adhering to the doctrine of the Presbyterian church, sprinkled converts.  He did, however, permit deacons to baptize those persons who wished to be immersed. It was those baptized believers who formed the first Baptist church, Freedoms Chapel, would probably have been a log cabin.  After several years of worshipping in that building, they constructed a small frame structure near where the late Reverend William Wilkinson’s house stands today. Church growth was so phenomenal that a third church was built on the ground where the present building stands.  The land for that church was purchased on October 4, 1890 from the late Richard and Marina Booker, parents of the late Finnetta and Eliza McGee and Bossie and Thomas Booker.  At this time, the church was given the name Union Branch Baptist Church.
